FORTUNES! COMEDY BANG BANG! JOY 2! PHENOMENA 2!

Hey, it’s Bendis.

Remember when I said that once in a while we’ll do a proper newsletter full of news and letters? BOOM! Here ya go. A newsletter. Here’s everything that’s going on in Jinxworld and beyond…

MASTERCLASS UPDATE

Firstly, class is this week! Usually it’s on Tuesday, but this week it’s on THURSDAY (4/13) at our usual time, 6:00pm PST.

Class subject this week: DIALOGUE. The do’s! the don’ts! The lessons learned! When to gibber jabber and when to shut the hell up. And another all-new special deep dive comics presentation by Taki Soma. All this, plus, your Q and our A.

Expect the class link in our post Thursday afternoon!

COMEDY BANG BANG

My public nerding has led to me being invited onto one of my favorite podcasts. I will be recording an episode of COMEDY BANG BANG WORLD’S SCOTT HASN’T SEEN next month!

For those that don’t know, Scott Hasn’t Seen is a podcast that takes us down the list of blindspot movies and TV shows Scott Aukerman hasn’t seen yet. If it sounds like a flimsy premise, it’s not. I looooove this podcast. It’s a great conversation about aaaaall kinds of different parts of our pop culture with Shaun Diston, Scott and a special guest. Fellow comic newsletterians Gerry Duggan and Chip Zdarksy have already done GREAT episodes of this show.

The groovy part of this is Scott sends the guest the surprisingly big list of movies he hasn’t seen and we get to pick. Scott’s list included three of my favorite movies of all time and two of my favorite bad movies of all time. I was really torn on which way to go. After great personal debate amongst my family and friends, I chose my favorite movie of all time: WARREN BEATTY‘S REDS.

If it is surprising to hear that Warren Beatty‘s Reds is my favorite movie, then please, join us next month for a lengthy, hopefully passionate discussion. Hey, if Warren Beatty is going to spend his golden years dressing as Dick Tracy, the least I can do is celebrate his truly brilliant work.

A big Jinxworld prize package is heading out to Ethan Johnson who, on the Jinxworld Discord, guessed the movie. We’ll definitely be doing more contests. That was fun.

PHENOMENA (THE BOOK) UPDATE

This week was kind of huge on my end. I handed in the full draft of PHENOMENA: BOOK TWO to our publisher Abrams Comixarts.

It’s a full manuscript. Andre and I have been building an entirely new playground and story all year. Handing it in to both Andre and to the publisher was appropriately nerve-racking. I was explaining to my kids that even though I’m handing in like 150 typed pages it probably represents close to 2000 pages.

I am happy to report It was warmly received and I am already working on BOOK THREE. (It’s a trilogy.)

I just wanted to celebrate the moment, especially now that we have actual readers and fans of the first book. And in different languages now!

The second book is in a very healthy space and I cannot wait to share that with you as well.

Oh yeah, here’s a new peek.

It all looks like this.

JOY!

Also in production is JOY OPERATIONS: VOLUME TWO. Here’s an EXCLUSIVE sneaky peak…

This page came in from co-creator Stephen Byrne last night. He is on fire and I just wanted to share it with you.

Thank you for supporting Joy!!

FORTUNE AND GLORY

In stores this week! The original FORTUNE AND GLORY!

It is brand new printing from Dark Horse Comics with wonderful colors by Matt Wilson. This Eisner-nominated autobiographical comic takes us behind the scenes to Hollywood in the late 90s. It’s a period piece now and it is a very honest look at what it was like to be a comics creator back then.

For those of you reading FORTUNE AND GLORY: THE MUSICAL in this newsletter, this is the original.

ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE

Believe it or not, we’re just a few weeks away from the new Spider-Verse film! The trailer came out last week…

It was reported that over 150,000,000 people watched it in the first 24 hours. The fact that 150 million people even know who Miles Morales is is mind blowing... and humbling. My sincere love and congratulations to all of the filmmaker‘s, artists, and storytellers working on Miles theatrically and in the video games and comics and all the other formats that Miles is thriving in. It warms my heart. It makes me so happy. I can’t wait to share this new experience with all of you. I can’t believe we got to do it again.

Yes, I am consulting and have already seen a cut of the film. This is a very happy experience for me and my family. And I am very excited to share it with you.

MURDER INC. IS BACK!

In grittier news, we are so excited to FINALLY bring you the next monthly volume of our crime comic MURDER INC.! It’s all completed and heading your way, monthly, from Dark Horse.

We got some GREAT Hollywood news about Murder Inc…

Check out all three volumes of Murder Inc. on sale now from, yeah, Dark Horse Comics.

Okay, plugs over…

Or are they??

We’re just super proud of these stories and are dying to share them with you.

Thank you for spreading the word on this newsletter. Thank you for saying nice shit about us on the internet.

We hope to see you Thursday for class and next week for all-new CREATION. and FORTUNE AND GLORY: THE MUSICAL!

Also, coming soon in Creation.: SECRET INVASION! Oooh…
